Sigma 150-500mm f5-6.3 OS review

Verdict

The Sigma 150-500 OS is a good long tele-zoom – indeed it’s the least costly way to get a zoom reaching 500mm at f6.3 with image stabilization. The performance on the short side up to 300mm is very good even wide open but you need to stop down to f8 or even f11 for sharp results at longer focal lengths. The stabilizer helps enormously as it gives you 2 additional stops of hand-holding power in my tests and even helps you get sharper images if you mount this lens on a not-so-sturdy tripod.

So this lens deserves a Recommended rating.

Summary

Good points

Up to 500mm focal length in a package that is neither too hefty nor too expensive.
Quiet AF operation.
Image stabilization.

Bad points
Image quality deteriorating visibly on the long end.
AF a bit slow.
No weather sealing.
