The following images were taken with the Nikon 14-24/2.8G on a D800. Each image was recorded in RAW and converted with Lightroom 4.4 at Camera Standard settings. Noise-reduction is set to 0, sharpening to 70/0.5/36/10, no extra tone, color, or saturation-adjustment was used. You can click on each image to access the large original. 24mm on a full-frame body can already give you quite a wide vista:
City Hall: shot with Nikon AF-S 14-24/2.8G at 24mm f5.6 on a D800
Main image and all 100% crops: 24mm, f5.6, 1/500 sec, 100 ISO
left | center | right |
But zooming back to 14mm opens up a whole new perspective showing much more context:
City Hall: shot with Nikon AF-S 14-24/2.8G at 14mm f5.6 on a D800
Main image and all 100% crops: 14mm, f5.6, 1/500 sec, 100 ISO
left | center | right |
Shot from the side, the city hall shows its beautifully adorned walls and the lens captures it in very fine detail. But it also shows how precipitously parallels converge when you tilt the camera upwards:
City Hall: shot with Nikon AF-S 14-24/2.8G at 14mm f4.0 on a D800
Main image and all 100% crops: 14mm, f4.0, 1/1000 sec, 100 ISO
left | center | right |
Capture fine details in fabrics and furs:
Fur: shot with Nikon AF-S 14-24/2.8G at 16mm f5.6 on a D800
Main image and all 100% crops: 16mm, f5.6, 1/30 sec, 100 ISO |
Captured handheld in the dark cathedral. ISO 360, no noise-reduction:
Altar: shot with Nikon AF-S 14-24/2.8G at 20mm f2.8 on a D800
Main image and all 100% crops: 20mm, f2.8, 1/20 sec, 360 ISO
upper center | lower center | right |
Scene shot at f5.6. No problem shooting against bright sky or white clouds:
Tower Bridge: shot with Nikon AF-S 14-24/2.8G at 17mm f5.6 on a D800
Main image and all 100% crops: 17mm, f5.6, 1/250 sec, 100 ISO |
Set the lens to 24mm f2.8 and get close. Then you can even produce some bokeh, although it is rather nervous due to some amount of outlining:
Tulips: Bokeh-shot with Nikon AF-S 14-24/2.8G at 24mm f2.8 on a D800
Main image and all 50% crops: 24mm, f2.8, 1/1000 sec, 100 ISO |
Closing in on the details. A shot from 50 cm distance:
Structure: shot with Nikon AF-S 14-24/2.8G at 24mm f8.0 on a D800
Main image and all 100% crops: 24mm, f8, 1/30 sec, 100 ISO
upper left | center | lower right |
Details aplenty on this innovative bicycle:
Bicycle: shot with Nikon AF-S 14-24/2.8G at 24mm f4.0 on a D800
Main image and all 100% crops: 24mm, f4.0, 1/60 sec, 100 ISO
bottom | center | right |
