Samples

The following images were taken with the Nikon Z 400mm f2.8 TC VR S lens mounted on a 45MP Nikon Z7 camera. I cranked up ISO as it was quite windy and I wanted to avoid any shake. All images were shot wide open as RAW files and developed in Lightroom 11.2/CRAW 14.2 from RAW to Adobe Color profile with the built-in lens profile compensating CA, vignetting, and distortions. Noise-reduction is set to 0 (even with images shot at ISO 2000), sharpening to 50/0.5/36/10, with no extra tone, color, or saturation adjustment. I only did the occasional exposure compensation or cropping in post-processing. Most of the birds of prey were behind a wire-mesh fence, so there are some artefacts in these images. But all other images were shot without a fence or glass interfering. Many images show the same animal(s) shot at 400mm and 560mm within seconds, as the teleconverter is really easy to switch on. This gives you a good opportunity to compare sharpness, angle-of-view, and Bokeh of both focal lengths.

The individual exposure details are stated for each image.
