To measure and compare the Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd’s resolving power we photographed the Enhanced Digital Camera Resolution Chart with it and a number of super-zoom rivals, each using their best quality JPEG and default image tone and sharpening settings. Each camera was tested at every aperture setting and the best result selected for this page. The crops are taken from the original images, saved as High Quality JPEGs in Photoshop CS2 and presented here at 100%. Each number represents 100 lines per picture height (lpph), so a figure of 20 means a resolution of 2000 lpph. |
In terms of resolving power under studio conditions, the FinePix S8000fd delivered 1600 lpph of horizontal and vertical resolution. This places it below its super-zoom rivals from Olympus, Panasonic and Sony, and its results also suffer from quite bad moiré. This is a disappointing result for the S8000fd, although it’s important to also compare real-life detail as seen on the previous page and in our S8000fd Gallery. Next let’s see how the camera compares throughout its sensitivity range in our S8000fd noise results. |
