To measure and compare the Fujifilm FinePix F50fd’s resolving power we photographed the Enhanced Digital Camera Resolution Chart with it and a number of rival compacts, each using their best quality JPEG and default image tone and sharpening settings. Each camera was tested at every aperture setting and the best result selected for this page. The crops are taken from the original images, saved as High Quality JPEGs in Photoshop CS2 and presented here at 100%. Each number represents 100 lines per picture height (lpph), so a figure of 20 means a resolution of 2000 lpph. |
In terms of resolving power, the Fujifilm FinePix F50fd delivers 2250 lpph of horizontal and vertical resolution, placing it neck in neck with Sony’s 12 Megapixel Cyber-shot W200. This is an impressive result for both cameras and shows a measurable boost over their predecessors and lower resolution models. Of course this is a studio test taken under artificial light at close range – and also only examines an area close to the middle of the frame where the lens performs at its best – but it’s still a good result for the Fujifilm F50fd. As we saw on the previous F50fd Outdoor Results page, this resolution can translate into finer real-life detail being captured, although the differences can be subtle compared to lower resolution cameras. Still, another good result for the F50fd here, but now let’s look at how it handles different sensitivities in our F50fd noise results. |
