Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1

Outdoor scene - Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 versus Fujifilm FinePix S9500 / S9000

The image above was taken with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 at 7mm f5.6 and with a sensitivity of 80 ISO; the original JPEG measured 2.31MB, while the original image used for the Fujifilm S9500 / S9000 crops measured 4.32MB. The crops are taken from the upper left, center and lower right portions of the originals and presented here at 100%.

Viewed at 100%, the crops show the Fujifilm S9500 / S9000 unsurprisingly resolving greater detail than the Panasonic TZ1 – this is particularly apparent in the fine details of the buildings in the middle crop. But considering the Fujifilm is a 9 Megapixel camera with large optics at its disposal, it’s surprising the differences aren’t actually greater. When comparing these crops, it’s important to remember the Panasonic TZ1 is a considerably smaller compact camera with 5 Megapixel resolution. As such it turns out a respectable performance here.
