Fujifilm F30 wide angle geometry

To measure and compare the Fujifilm FinePix F30’s geometric distortion we photographed a test chart consisting of a grid pattern, using it and a number of rival models.

Here are the results for each camera with their built-in lenses at their widest focal length; where possible, the aperture was closed.

The images were analysed with Imatest using 5th Order line calculation and the full areas presented here at a reduced resolution.

The image left was taken with the Fujifilm FinePix F30 zoomed-out to 8mm.

8-24mm at 8mm
Distortion: 1.34% barrel

Barrel distortion was measured at 1.34% which is comfortably below that of the Canon A640 and Sony N2, although not quite as good as the Panasonic TZ1. Either way, a good result for the F30.

Fujifilm FinePix F30 telephoto geometry comparison

Fujifilm F30 telephoto geometry

To measure and compare the Fujifilm FinePix F30’s geometric distortion we photographed a test chart consisting of a grid pattern, using it and a number of rival models.

Here are the results for each camera with their built-in lenses at their longest focal length; where possible, the aperture was closed.

The images were analysed with Imatest using 5th Order line calculation and the full areas presented here at a reduced resolution.

The image left was taken with the Fujifilm FinePix F30 zoomed-in to 24mm.

8-24mm at 24mm
Distortion: 0.17% pincushion

Pincushion distortion was measured at 0.17%, which again is comfortably lower than the Canon A640 and Sony N2, although again not quite as good as the Panasonic TZ1. This remains a good result for the F30 though, which suffers from noticeably lower geometric distortion across its focal range than most of its rivals.
