Outdoor scene - Sony DSC-R1 versus Canon EOS-350D / Digital Rebel XT
![]() |
To compare real-life performance
we shot the same scene with both cameras within a few minutes of each other
using their best quality JPEG settings and an aperture of f8 using Aperture
Priority mode. The crops are taken from the originals and presented here
at 100%. The image left was taken with the Sony DSC-R1 at 30mm f8 (50mm equivalent); the original JPEG measured 4.26MB. In all three crops the R1 resolves more detail than the 350D, and the third crop from the far right area reveals better edge performance from the Sony lens too. Sharpening and contrast using the Sony's default settings are however a little agressive at times. |
