Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 Gordon Laing, February 2011

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 gallery

The following images were taken with a final production Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2, running firmware 1.0 and 1.0 for the body and lens and equipped with a Panasonic H-FS014042 14-42mm kit lens. To view sample videos taken with the GH2, please visit our Panasonic Lumix GH2 Sample Movies.

For the images below, the Lumix GH2 was set to L 16M Fine JPEG mode, Auto White Balance, Multi Metering, and the Standard Film Mode. I.Resolution and I.Dynamic were both set to their Off settings by default. Image Stabilisation was enabled for all these handheld shots.

The individual exposure mode, file sizes, shutter speeds, aperture, ISO and lens focal length are listed for each image.

The crops are taken from the original files, reproduced at 100% and saved in Adobe Photoshop CS5 as JPEGs with the Very High quality preset, while the resized images were made in Photoshop CS4 and saved with the default High quality preset. The three crops are typically taken from far left, central and far right portions of each image. Some of the images below can be downloaded for further analysis; please respect our copyright and only use those images for personal use.

Note: you may wish to open a number of galleries for direct comparison of detail and noise: Sony Alpha SLT-A33 sample images, Canon EOS 60D sample images, Nikon D7000 sample images, Sony Alpha NEX-5 sample images.

To view sample videos taken with the Lumix GH2, please visit our Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 Sample Movies.

The sequence below was shot at Continuous High (quoted 5fps), although as explained in the main review, continuous AF reduced this to closer to 2fps, so the ten frames represent approximately five seconds of action. We used Shutter Priority at 1/800, AFC and the 14-42mm kit lens at 42mm. We've taken a closer look at the fourth frame in the sequence above.
