Nikon D40 with AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 G II ED Gordon Laing, March 2007

Nikon D40 video tour

We're pleased to present a short video tour of the Nikon D40, demonstrating its headline features and easy-to-use menus, along with discussing the new Nikon D40x; since the Nikon D40x is identical to the D40 other than its sensor, this video also acts as a preview of Nikon's latest DSLR. There's no need to download any new software - just press the play button in the middle of the screen below and wait for the video to start; you may need to press the button twice. The quality and any delay before playing may vary depending on your internet connection.

Good points

Small, light and comfortable.
Very easy to use with helpful menus.
Consumer-friendly photos out of the camera.
Nikon's legendary metering is rarely fooled.

Bad points
Has 'only' 6 Mpixels, but it's enough for most.
No auto-focus with certain, older lenses.
Some settings require too many button presses.
Basic 3-point AF and no DOF preview.
