Outdoor scene - Fujifilm F30 vs Canon A640 vs Sony N2
Each lens was adjusted to deliver the same field of view, although differences in their actual zoom positions resulted in slight variations. The Fujifilm result also shows a larger area due to its lower resolution sensor. The image to the left was taken with the Fujifilm F30 at 10.4mm f5.6, with a sensitivity of 100 ISO; the original JPEG measured 2.99MB; the Canon A640 and Sony N2 images measured 4.89 and 4.32MB respectively. The crops are taken from the upper left, center and lower right portions of the originals and presented here at 100%. |

| The Fujifilm FinePix F30 delivers a natural-looking, detailed image which only slightly softens in the extreme corners. It's also interesting to compare the difference in detail captured between the 6.3 Megapixel F30 and the 10 Megapixel Canon A640 and Sony N2. The 10 Megapixel compacts do capture slightly more detail than the F30, but it's not as great a difference as the numbers might suggest. It's also interesting to see how over-zealous sharpening applied by the Sony N2 may have delivered an impressive-looking final crop, but has resulted in undesirable artefacts around some buildings in the second crop. |
