Canon Speedlite 580EX II
Canon EOS 40D silent shooting video demonstration

Canon's EOS 40D has quite a unique shutter sound thanks to a dual motor design with one dedicated to the mirror and the other to cocking the shutter. But put the camera into Live View mode and it sounds quite different still, and there's even a silent option for discreet operation. In this video we'll demonstrate all three for comparison.

As always, there's no need to download any new software - just press the play button in the middle of the screen below and wait for the video to start; you may need to press the button twice. The quality and any delay before playing may vary depending on your internet connection. And don't forget to check out our main Canon EOS 40D video tour which demonstrates the highlights of this DSLR.
