Nikkor DX lenses

Nikkor’s range of DX lenses are designed for DSLRs with smaller ‘APS-C’ sized sensors. These include the company’s most popular models, such as the D40, D40x, D60, D80, D200 and D300. DX lens optics are only corrected for use on these bodies and are not designed for use with full-frame FX models.

Like all Nikkor lenses, you’ll still need to take your DSLR’s field reduction factor into account. Since DX lenses are only designed for use on APS-C bodies, the reduction factor will be 1.5 times for every model. So the general-purpose DX 18-55mm lens will deliver a field of view equivalent to a 27-83mm.

Also note Nikon DSLRs without built-in focusing motors, like the D40, D40x and D60, will only auto-focus with AF-S Nikkor lenses. If you use an AF Nikkor lens on these bodies, such as the Nikkor AF DX Fisheye 10.5mm, they will be manual focus only.
