Is this normal?

I recently got a tripod and Extreme III (30mb/sec) SDHC card and started doing some longer exposure shots.

What I'm noticing is really long write times... is this normal? It's taken anywhere from 3 to 15 seconds to write.

Camera is a Nikon D40.

Turned out to be the on camera noise reduction feature... turned it back off and write time was almost instant.

The extra time is caused by the camera's dark frame subtraction kicking in. It takes an shot at the same exposure settings but with zero light so it's all noise and no detail being captured in the scene. It then subtracts that frame from the original so you get, in theory, a noise free image. It works better on the computer in PP though so turning it off is probably a good idea.
