Noise doesn't bother me, just speed.

Yeah, I agree, Sony's are really expensive and most don't even have SSM.

I just did some research. From what I have gathered, the average shutter lag (with AF) on the A700 with CZ 16-180 lens is around .20. I've seen sites that record .15 and sites that record .21.

So its faster than the A100's .30.

I saw a site that said the official number is that the AF is 1.7x faster on the new A700.

I wonder why I care so much, I guess I just want a responsive camera...

Do you know how much it is for a similar lens (same min->max traveling distance) on another brand?

Hi all...

joebobjoe, good information, I really dont know how is the best lens in AF speed, but I think that this is fast in a lens with a focal distance of 16-80mm.

The noise, I dont care, but I think that I need AF fast in long distance, wide angle, maybe, but the rest I dont consider, but is my opinion and if the new lenses Sony have SSM, WELCOME...

My Sony lens 24-105 I consider that is fast and precise and I think that it is very good...

I found an interesting passage dedicated to the a700's AF:

I also have some interesting info on Mr. Laing's testing. Apparently there is a problem with some of the CZ 16-80 lenses:

Guys, I had no problems with the CZ 16-80mm in terms of focusing accuracy - on the A100 anyway. The optical quality of this lens was excellent - I was just unhappy with the focusing speed and noise.

As for the A700, I didn't test it with the CZ 16-80mm because the lens wasn't available to me at the time - I wanted to though, so perhaps I dodged a bullet there!

But again, look at my CZ 16-80mm crops on the A100 - they look just fine.
