Hi Guys,
Windows 7 beat will be available for download to consumers, free of charge as of tomorrow (9 Jan 09)! I may well be giving it a whizz, and if i find little bugs i may well use it as a day to day OS!

Hmm, I might give it a try too! I was somewhat disappointed with Vista.
I don't think it delivered to a lot of users and Microsoft know it.

I'll also be trying a test installation - be interesting to hear what everyone thinks...

I am sitting wondering, weather this download will enable users to literally upgrade from Vista in essence, and keeping all there files but still upgrading?

Hope to get it too. Just did a search for more info, one which said the public beta will be limited to 2.5 million downloaders. Due tomorrow afternoon, I assume USA time so that's perfect for evening for me and giving it a whirl on the weekend.

Micosoft are going to have to have alot of powerful servers with alot of high bandwidth in alot of different countrys! Although any estimation of how quickly the 2.5 million is going to be used up???

Edit: It may seem a bit sad but i am actually rather excited, at last maybe a better day to day OS than stupid vista, maybe?

My guess is probably under an hour or two...

Again, that's just a guess... it may be even less or it may be longer. All I know is that when I was buying tickets to a concert, they sold out within 5 minutes since they went on sale (for a NYC venue!!). Microsoft being a global corporation, have a lot more users than 2.5 million who will all want to get the download... And by the way, who is the source on the 2.5Mil number? Is this a trusted source?

I think it'll be around longer than that, but have no idea how long. Bear in mind that professionals have other routes to get it already so that leaves more enthusiasts.

Source was some news site I found on google. I don't know it personally and I haven't confirmed or ruled it out.

Yeh, i agree with you there Popo, also does anybody know what time, in which time zone the download will go live? Also where did you find the website that said the limit was 2.5 million downloads, popo?

Microsoft's site "Want to try the Beta? Come back the afternoon of January 9" and I have to assume it's somewhere in USA time.

There's various news/blogs stating the 2.5 million reference, just google.

They'll hit 2.5 million downloads easily. Especially given that it's free, who wouldn't want to give it a spin? ;)

Their servers will be totally overloaded. Of course, given that the beta is free you could download it via more "questionable" means. Just be sure you know what the checksums are so that you can verify that you've downloaded the right thing!

If it's anything like the vista betas while that was out, you'll still need a key to install it. I didn't have trouble getting the official public vista betas.
