CF cards use the same signalling interface as the older parallel ATA hard disks. With a mechanical adapter you can use it in place of a hard disk in a PC. As the interface evolved through the years, they kept adding new modes for ever increasing speeds. UDMA (Ultra Direct Memory Access) is one of the transfer modes the fastest of which can peak at 133 MB/s. I don't know what modes CF cards actually use though.
