Hi everyone,

As a new owner of a D40x, I was curious to see how it performs in low light (without flash) from different points of view. I have put together a .jpg file with 100% crops from the same picture taken at different settings.

I thought that it might interest some people and give a little idea of the D40's performances.
Please don't take this as the most accurate test though as it's only my own little pictorial review and DO refer primarily to Gordon's reviews and opinions as they are much much more accurate and professional.

Here it is:

Tell me what you think. Cheers!

Hi Andy, that's a nice composite image and illustrates what happens at different settings well. What settings do you tend to use your D40x at?

Since I bought it on Dec.7th, I've used it mostly on 'aperture priority' since my shots were indoor with poor lighting. I kept the aperture wide open and simply tried to steady the camera as the shutter speeds were often around 1/4 sec.

I've been really busy lately so I didn't get the chance to go out and photograph anything else (anything in daylight). Can't wait for Christmas time though to do that!

Hi Andy,

That's a very professional looking comparison layout. Thanks for putting in all the time and posting it for all of us to see.

Is that some kind of template or did you come up with that from scratch?

Thanks

-steve

Thanks. It's my pleasure if it's useful for others as well.

I haven't used any template though ... it was simply me having some fun with Photoshop. I'm glad you like it :)
