Hi,

I am planning to buy a Nikon D80 and intend to use a filter to protect the lens. I've heard that filters can affect focusing and can cause ghosting and flare. Are there any differences between a UV and a protector filter when it comes to these problems? I am thinking of the Hoya Pro 1 D series. Thanks.

Great site and forum btw, really helped in me choosing my first dslr.

I have a D80 and use a Hoya HMC Haze UV filter on my 18-70mm and 70-300mm VR lenses. I haven't noticed any ghosting with them. You should have no problem with the Pro filters.

I've got a Hoya Pro 1 D series UV filter and a Circular Polariser and have never had any problems.

Yep I have a HOYA aswell, never any problems and it could very well save the the lens if it drops by mistake too.
