 Post subject: k-m review?
PostPosted: Thu Dec 04, 2008 12:30 am
hi everyone, long time reader, first time poster.

i was just wondering if there will be a review on the k-m released anytime soon? im really interested in this model and how it measures up to the k200d. although im sure its much the same, (other than the weather proofing) I was just wondering how they compare in terms of image quality.

im also kind of looking for some general advice, i'm a first time dslr buyer. is the underexposure really that noticeable with the k200d?
some help would be nice thanks

Hi robbie. Welcome to camera labs.

I can't answer your first question as I too anticipate a review from Gordon. I think the image quality will be similar. But for your second question, it depends on what metering mode you use.

There are three metering modes on K200D.
Multi segment underexpose to keep retain highlight details. I suspect Pentax do this delibrately as the K200D has more dynamic range in the shadow than in the highlight compartment. Center weight produces more even exposure. Spot metering is dependent on what you point the camera at and can give over, under or spot on exposure.

I'd buy the K200D if I were you. The main reason for me buying a Pentax would be weather sealing in the budget line of cameras. The K-m loses both weather sealing and live view. That IMHO makes it a much less appealing camera.

I hope new review from Gordon about k-m too.

I think that this camera has some potential.

here are several reviews from other sites, the results of the K-m are quite good.

pgtips: K200d does not have a live view either...

so k-m looses only weather sealing.
different handling. yet quite good, smaller body, but not to small, faster AF, yet, less AF points, weaker flash, but other than that they are quite similar..
