Rant away Bob, I was also annoyed Camera RAW effectively stopped at v 3.7 for CS2 users, forcing owners of newer bodies to upgrade to CS3 or buy Lightroom. I don't see why they couldn't keep the RAW plug-in standard across CS2 and CS3...

But in Adobe's defence, I'm running CS2 on my main Vista system without any problems.

Adobe have to be one of the most arrogant companies on the planet. I know I am steering perilously close to a "flame" here but I am not amused at having to pay over £160 because Adobe decided not to issue a full Vista compatibility patch for Photoshop CS2 and also decided not to update the CS2 RAW converters. It's annual licensing by the back door. And don't get me started on the price difference between the US and Europe!

Actually, once it fires up so do I but I find the Updater intrusive (I run Vista x64 Ultimate under a Standard User Account) and for some reason (finger trouble on my part no doubt) as often as not it takes forever to open local files - not a problem when I used it under XP Pro on the same hardware.

As for the RAW converter issue, I see that 16 bit TIFF is available from Canon's DPP program if I want to avoid JPEG until post processing is complete.

Have you used 16 bit TIFF? I assume it is completely lossless.

In the hope of proving I am less mean spirited than Adobe, for those that have paid their "annual license" and bought Photoshop CS3 there is a new version of the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in of available here. :evil: EOS 40D support has been added.

TIFF is completely lossless, as you'll notice when you see the shear size of the files, lol.

Well I have the plug in for my 510 but as Gordon said it does not work. I have now un installed CS2. And dad has....erm.....let me see.....given me a FREE copy which works PERFECT!!!! :oops:
