When I'm downoading pictures with my card reader I'm having some speed issues. The fact is, that some times it downloads quickly at about 20mb/s, and sometimes it is only capable of reaching about 2mb/s.. Anyone with similar problem or suggestions?

usually if you are connected via high speed reader, its always high speed.

the only way this would make sense is if your computer was already working hard, such as, if you were downloading something playing music ripping a cd and ten other things while trying to upload photos

Is it a USB card reader? USB is dependent on the CPU so when you are performing other tasks, your transfer rates will drop.

It is a USB card reader, but as far as I van tell, it has nothing to do with my cpu. Sometimes I'm only running fireox, and with a dual core 2X2.4ghz it should be fast. Could it be the fact that it is a cheap reader?

Could be.....how are the speeds when doing nothing at all?

I have had a Belkin USB card reader for nearly 2 years now works at the same rate all of the time, suggest you try another reader.

Have you tried a different cable? That was the problem I had with a low quality cable!

It can be that your memory card has bad clusters, and that is very possible. Copy your images on your PC and then give the MC a full format. After that, scan it for any errors using scan disk. If this doesn't help then it could be that your USB port doesn't have constant voltage, this is because of mother board or power supply failure...and wrong BIOS settings

I've only have the speed slowed down once a twice over a two month period, something I can handle. Generally, my download speed is between 20and30mb/s now, so I'm very happy!
