Hi Nathan, I admire your purist approach to avoiding Photoshop, but I wonder how long you'll hold out for!

At first I had issues with digitally manipulating the image too much, but then realised it wasn't much different to using a filter - or indeed playing with depth of field or shutter speeds to achieve various effects.

So I came to the conclusion that it was a bit of a double-standard believeing any controls on the camera were fine, but any controls afterwards were not. As more cameras feature built-in retouching, this also raises issues with where you draw the line...

Then there's the fact most pre-digital pro photographers did plenty of retouching in the darkroom.

Ultimately you can't beat the right natural light, but if I've waited days or weeks for the perfect moment and suddenly some vehicle parks in front of the scene, I'm not gonna feel bad about cloning it out later.

That said, if I get a great shot which required no subsequent manipulation, I always tell people!

I understand what you are saying Gordon, that would make me mad too and I have no problem with adjusting levels or maybe shapening it just the really heavy stuff I am not into, and I will try to hold on as long as possible. But who knows one of these days I might miss a great opputunity due to a parked car.haha.
