I'd say a 4gb would be pretty good to start out with. I'm not sure how the memory usage will work on the video mode, but perhaps having one SD for videos, and one for photographs...

What's your current card situation?

i heard that the vid mode is a pretty hungry beast!

Well, if your budget permits, I'd say get a dedicated 4gb card for your D90 Videos, and keep the 1 + 2gb cards for photography.

3gb should be around, eh', 550/600 shots Jpeg...

I guess the best thing would be to wait till you get the camera to see how much memory it really requires...

Hi,

I too have a question on this.
What should be the speed of the card. I have seen some ad's in website saying 133x, Extreme III, IV....
What are they? do they really matter?

For a cam say D90, which of the speed would match the best? Will a 8GB card overload the camera?

Thanks,
Swami

i have a D90

no the 8gb card will not overload the camera

i have a scandisk extreme III class 6 8gb card and it works wonders for my camera, i would recommend it

it normally goes for $110

it processes 30mb/sec, it saves the pictures to the card faster so the memory buffer in your camera is emptied faster ultimately maintaining the fps longer

Does anyone know if the D90 can handle a 16GB card?

I am shooting more video than I thought I would be with this thing.

P.S. It shoots nice video, but the microphone is HORRIBLE(NOT KIDDING)I wish one had the option for an external mike. Luckily the stuff I am shooting gets dubbed anyway.

It should handle it just fine, up to 32 GB's with the SDHC standard. I have an Ultra II 8 GB card and it works flawlessly.

Post subject: Sandisk for a D90
PostPosted: Sat Jul 11, 2009 10:08 am
I am not sure if this is the appropriate place for this question. BestBuy in my area has a Sandisk 16GB Extreme III SDHC card 30MB/ second on sale for a very good price. I just bought a Nikon D90 and noticed on page 242 of the user manual that they list sandisk cards up to 8 GB as being tested and approved for this camera but no mention is made of the 16 GB card. Has anyone used a Sandisk 16 GB card in this camera and if so has there been any problems. Thanks

I'd like to buy one new card too, I got a default SDHC card of 4GB.
Now I'd like to have a faster card, ultra 2 or Extreme 3 OR I don't know which. Will the ultra be fast enough to shoot 25 RAW's without a lag?

THanks, Joren

Not even an extreme 3 will be fast enough to get you 25 raw jpegs without slowdown. The max the D90 can do is 11 RAW frames before it needs to clear it's buffer. You'll then have to wait 5 seconds till the buffer clears if you want to shoot the same ammount of shots in one go again. Obviously you can wait half that time and start again, but the buffer will still be attempting to clear itself.
