JUst my first post to say hi to the people on the forums. I have been lurking here for the last couple of months when I stumbled upon this site while researching for my first DSLR. What a great placethis is with a great bunch of people willing to give advise.
I am a complete noob when it comes to photography and I expectthat I will be quite active here with all sorts of questions. My first digital camera that I owned was a point and shoot Olympus Mju-410 4 megapixel one which has served me well over the last 4 years or so. Unfortunately I discovered that it has some major limitations for the sort of things that I take photos of. My main interests are military history and aviation museums, airshows, field hockey, football, and motorsport such as DTM, F1, Superbikes and Moto GP.
It was actually my wife that suggested looking for a better camera. So after much research on this site and others I decided to purchase the Nikon D40 with the 18-55 lense kit package. I made my purchase from Jessops for GBP £325 minus £60 cashback from Nikon for a final price of £265.00. In the end I just couldn't justify paying an extra £100 plus for the D40x and quite frankly I was on a very tight budget. Anyway I haven't had that much of a chance yet to explore my D40 but my initial impressions are good. The important thing is that I have now taken the plunge into the world of digital SLR cameras. Happy days.
