One of bazillion trees at the Bok Tower Gardens in FL. I was literally almost prone while getting the shot, the area is littered with ant mounds

This is a section of the Wilts and Berks canal outside Wootton Bassett in Wiltshire.

Image processed a bit in Photoshop Elements as I'm still learning it and deciding if I should buy it...

Who was here first?

Image

Fuji S8000fd - 1/60 - f/2.8 - Manual - 27mm - ISO 800 - WB Auto - Forced Flash(+2/3)

I framed the photo so a traffic sign on the right was just outside the shot. I felt that was a bit much to clone out. I did clone out an offending box (cable TV probably), some reflections in the rear light and license plate of the car in the background and a few other minor visual clutters. Most also reflections I think. They were just distracting. I could have removed the white posts too but I didn't want to go any further. Once you start you can keep going otherwise. Besides that the photo is just resized.

I had shot this earlier but it was completely dark then and the black sky was a bit boring. This time there was still some light and the dark blue cloudy sky contrasts nicely with the orange glow of the sodium lamp and adds to the colour palette.

I liked the 'nature vs. technology struggle' theme of the photo. Over the past weeks I had shot several other potential candidates and although I quite liked some of them too I had to choose one. So this is it. Hope you like it.

I wonder what will happen when the tree grows to the point that it engulfs the street lantern. Will they cut down the tree or move the street lantern?

The battle continues.... :)

Ben.

This month was tough! I live in an area carpeted with forest, but getting a unique image was quite challenging.

In this image, a small maple leaf, about 1 inch (2.5 cm) across grows directly out of the trunk of a tree. I've never seen anything like this before. Funny part is, I found it in my front yard!

I like this photo because of the contrast, not only in the way the image was exposed, but also the subject matter itself. The bark is rough and jagged, while the leaf is smooth and silky. The bark is bland and uniform in color, while the leaf explodes with brilliant fire. And while the tree trunk (about 1 foot/30 cm diameter) is strong and mighty, the leaf is tiny and delicate.

Camera Model: Canon 40D
Lens and focal length: EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM @ 55 mm
Aperture: f/10
Shutter Speed: 1/160
Sensitivity: ISO 100
Post processing: Sharpness & contrast boost, raised black level, adjusted while balance (DPP), cropped (Photoshop 7)
