Without seeing your work beforehand, it's hard to say. What I can tell you is that it's much harder now with almost anyone equipped to take pictures. Start low and you may well work towards your dream.

Get good technical grounding, shoot for a few local or student publications and get as much experience on your hands. Photojournalism has a big element of experience involved - knowing where to spot a good photo opportunity, knowing how to interact or when not to interact with your subject, and delivering images that fit the editorial brief. It's not something you can get out of a book - so get out there with your camera!

I'll be floating about on the forum for a little while longer. If you have specific questions, PM me.

Good luck.

i guess you need a lot of practice, produce high quality and creative works.
You might need a mentor who will provide feedback and guide you, and also learn how to market yourself.

oh yea, if your school have student run publication, join to be a photographer and take assignments as your time permit (study still no 1). I learn a lot from it.

1. it will provide you a free training.
2. it will build up your portfolio and credibility

Helping pro photographers to be an assistant will work very good as well.
but since you're still very young, wait a couple more years :)

goodluck,
Enche
