Thanks hailstorm for the heads-up!
It's all very
D3x = Big powerful D3-body plus a hi-rez sensor (probably 24 MPix)
D800 = smaller body like D700 but with same high-rez sensor as D3x
D700 = smaller body with the super-sensitive sensor of the D3
Eventually we will see them all unless Nikon decides that the D800 will not get the same high-rez sensor as the D3x, to differentiate it better from its bigger cousin
As both sensors are sriously different (high-speed, low-rez vs. low-speed, hi-rez) both families will have a slice of the pro-market. And the versions with the bigger body will always be differentiated through some features that the smaller-body-version will lack - like the ultimate speed, double mem-card etc. of the D3 vs. the D700.
So all-in-all it is expected that Nikon will swamp the pro-market with 4 cameras in the not-too-distant future: A combination of two bodies (D3/D700) and two sensors (12MPix D3 + 24Mpix D3x)
For me the ideal body will be the D800: high-rez in a small package
