Camera Labs

Hi , I need some advice on buying a tripod and since there is so much choice I can't make up my mind.

I've already decided it's going to be a Manfrotto tripod. I've also decided it's going to be an aluminium tripod (no expensive carbon stuff). I am willing to spend €150 for the tripod and head. And of course it's got to have the ability to mount a videocamera and a SLR camera (but I think all tripods have this feature).

So has anyone got a suggestion ?

First you have to make up your mind what sort of head you'd prefer:
- Ball head = super fast and flexible, but not too stable
- Geared head = stable, super precise
- Three way head = stable, not too precise

Do all the 3 types of heads cost the same ?

Bart, there are so many versions of each type at Manfrotto head, that there is no clear answer. But as a trend I might say that sorted by ascending average price the sequence is this:
ball head, three way head, geared head
I think geared heads are only for die-hards so your choice could be ball- or three-way head. I'd strongly suggest to try one and the other in a shop, because these are quite different
