I am trying to choose a compact camera for a friend and one model that caught my eye is the Canon IXUS 950 IS (a.k.a. SD850).

Unfortunately, this camera has not received the Camera Labs gold star review treatment as yet 8) so I wonder if any lucky owner would care to share their experiences with this model?

The specifications tell me that the camera can do what is needed but, of course, they don't highlight the niggles in day to day operation or, indeed, the plus points. Hence the request for feedback.

Bob.

Hi Bob, as you know I've not tested this one myself.

If you're after any other compact recommendations, check out our Compact Buyers Guide.

Look out for some more compact reviews in the near future, although - ahem - not of the Ixus 950!

Gordon

Hi Gordon,

Thanks for the reply. It was a long shot that any of the forum members owned this particular model, particularly as it is pretty new.

One of my first ports of call was your Compact Buyers Guide and from your review the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 is a top contender, losing out only on size.

I deliberately restricted my question to the Canon forum (rather than Buying a new camera...) as I hoped that this forum would be the best place to generate any feedback on the IXUS 950 IS.

Bob.

If it helps, I'll be reviewing the Panasonic FX30 shortly... wide angle 3.6x zoom with stabilisation and a slim body...
