It's always worth searching for a shop on www.resellerratings.com as they have reviews from previous shoppers, who'll tell you if they got mucked around. If there's no reviews, then they're too new an operation to judge and I'd steer clear. Basically though if the deal is too good to be true, then there's normally a catch.

As for store recommendations, you haven't said where you're based!

As Gordon says: Most important is the reputability of the shop. Look it up at reselleratings.
As to the price of the combo: It looks fair, not overly agressive (I assume w/o tax?!?). But don't expext the tripod to be the most stable or the SD card the fastest one.
B.t.w. a 4GB card will cause probs, if it is not of the SDHC standard. and the card-reader will be junk too, if it does not support the same standard. So this could be sort of an acid-test to find out whether thei're selling you junk add-ons...

I looked it up on that site, and it had horrible reviews. Thanks for the information. I'll try to find a local shop or soemthing. I basically just want the body and the 18-200 VR lens. If anyone finds a good deal on the web, feel free to shot me over the information. Thanks!

As to the price of the d80+18-200VR in Europe that can be had for 1400EUR incl. 19% VAT.
That would translate into approx 1650$ w/o tax. But the pure $ conversion could be misleading: many Sigma lenses cost the same amount in $ as they cost in EUR (that is a price of 280EUR in Germany translates into 280$ in the US, although I'm not sure whether the US-prices include taxes).
So you can judge yourself whether a price you see at an american dealer seems ok or ridiculously cheap.

I'm not sure if this if worth having. Nikon provides a rather nice (if basic) guide to both the D40(X) and the D80.
