Hello everyone, welcome to July’s Assignment!

The theme for this month is suggested by Georgie2H who won the May 2008 competition. In Georgie2H’s own words:

"I quite like the idea of Minimalism, as suggested by (fellow forum member) Lorraine.”

Georgie2H made no preferences in terms of post processing, so feel free to manipulate your image, but do tell us what you’ve done. The main rule as always is the image submitted has to be taken during the month of entry – that is, during July 2008.

RULES!

1: The photo you submit should be taken during the month of the actual assignment - so for this month's contest, it must be taken during July 2008.

2: You're only allowed to submit one image, and you can't change your mind once it's posted!

3: Images should be no larger than 500 pixels on their longest side.

As always, please exercise good judgement on what is suitable for the forum.

Please include a sentence or two with your photo describing what you were trying to achieve and if there were any particular challenges in doing so.

This month i got started really early on my attempt at minimalism and i think i did a pretty good job.. i really had a conflict between 2 different shots and i dont know which one i like better but i tend to lean more towards this one.. these are my grandfathers old dog tags from the Korean war.. i hope you guys like it.

Well i missed the last Assignment so i made extra effort this time.

We have loads of cherries on our tree in the garden so i had an idea, so this is my take on Minimalism.



Hope you like it.

It’s a pretty simple idea, and wasn’t too hard to execute though had trouble isolating the cherries from the leaves/tree, also trying to avoid the dam caterpillars that hang from fine silk threads getting all over me! I’m still picking them out of my hair!

A challenging though not that difficult theme for this one, definitely a theme I like. Minimalism. I started to think of all kinds of photos, and ended up wanting to do a shoot with a pretty woman dressed minimally (i.o.w. nude ). However, there's no woman I know who would pose nude for me, so I started some more brainstorming.
Since I love golf (I don't play it myself, it's too expensive), I wanted to do something with that. I pictured a photo in my head and asked myself, how can I minimize that photo. That's how I finally ended up with this photo:



It was taken indoors, on my desk, with my flash firing wirelessly at the golfball, with +2.0 flash compensation. Here's some more EXIF:

This is my record ball. I sometimes go to local soccer fields with my friends and use a driver or 5 iron to do some swings. This ball is my furthest hit I retrieved (others ended up in bushes and were nowhere to be found).

I hope it matches the theme!

I don't know if this is Abstract but i took this below some bridge near the Esplanade for this month's CL On Assignment with its theme 'Minimalism'.

As you can see, its a water ripple, which was caused by leaking water coming from some drain below the bridge.

Because it was raining, I took shelter under this bridge which was a very lucky thing; I got this shot.

Taken in Creative Style: 'Night view' although it was around 3pm.

minimalist...hmmm. nothing on earth is as minimal as the cactus. took this nasty little sticker while out with my horse..just seems to me that no care, no water...just about as a self sufficient as can be. the true minimalist. Blessed with a stark, no nonsense beauty, of line, and form.. Meet the cactus. But not too close up...those really are sharp!! I can tell you that from experience...gorgeous colors...symmetric in design, ecologically superior. How little does it take?

I took this shot at Duthie Park in Aberdeen. There's a huge glasshouse there and it's free, lol. Every time I'm in Aberdeen I'm in this glasshouse at some point. Anyway, this shot was good in my head but the composition was lacking when I got it home and into Photoshop. Still, a few tweaks here and there and I think it starts to shine. The flowers are Gazanias, I think.

Shot at night time. A couple of houses across a pond, looks pretty sinister when converted to monochrome. I felt that the bleakness of the scene lent itself to the minimalist theme.
