Absolutely essential is a spare bat-pack and since your tele is not stabilized a monopod. I just acquired the Manfrotto 676B wich is lightweight (400g) and quite sturdy. It will certainly help you get the hit-rate with your Quantaray up

I have a small backpack in which I carry all the camera equipment that I currently own:
- D40 with the 55-200 VR (but without the hood)
- 18-55 II
- SB-400
- a few SD cards
- a CP
- a blower + brush
- AA rechargeables for the flash

There is still space for 1 or 2 primes

Yeah, Darrin: The flash!
It just reminds me that there are these situations even when waltzing around in free nature where I would have needed that extra flash power.
Because there are no walls/ceiling to reflect the light. Or to paraphrase it differently: It's not the sun that's weak, it's the woods that suck

Don't forget your CF card reader or USB cord for the camera! I've done that once at the AST Dew Tour I had to make an emergency best buy run, I was not happy.
