I am about to buy a tripod and i am stuck between two different ones the Velbon Sherpa 200R and the 435R, i can get them at almost the same price (£10 difference) but i am stuck as they are both better at different things.
I personally would like a tripod which is sturdy enough to hold my camera completely still (Landscape + Seascape) also would like to do some macro with it! Maximum weight for my camera gear in the future is about 2.5KG. The Sherpa 435R has a 4 way head and can hold 3kg and can go as low as 24cm, and the Sherpa 250R can hold 4KG but can only go as low as 59CM and only has a three way head!

So from youre own experience is the 3KG max load actually means max 3kg or does it mean the tripod might become unsturdy at 2.5kg???
Also would you rather have a tripod that could support more weight and also be heavier or have one which did not hold so much and be lighter?
Also just to let you know the 435R weighs just 1.4KG where as the 250R weighs a larger 2KG!
Also would a 4 way head be much better in practice than a three?
Please let me know what you think!
Thanks,
Ed

The 435R looks pretty good but that price (£85?) is getting dangerously close too Manfrotto territory. Pesonally I'd save up a bit extra and go for Manfrotto. You won't be dissapointed.

Which manfrotto models would you recommend?

Preferably with a new or used price around £100

Well the legs I use (see sig) cost around £85 and you can get a head from £25. I'd personally spend a bit more on the head as the cheaper ones can be a bit fiddly to use. The combination I use costs around £135 all in but it'll last me a lifetime, the quality's so good.
