Im just wondering what the benefits of having a laptop out on a shoot with you and how you can use it?

Is it possible to attatch the camera directly to the laptop while shooting so images show up on the laptop instantly instead of having to upload them afterwords?

Do you use a laptop out in the field with you and how do you use it and why?

I have a Sony A100 and a macbook pro.. What software (or hardware) would I need to do what you guys suggest?

thanks.

Studio -a dream come true!
Sports - wouldnt bother.
Wildlife - all depends, maybe in the back of a 4x4 - where you could sit on a camping stool or something and work it comfertably with it sitting on bed of the boot. [like a flatbed truck kinda boot]

Even though some of the camera screens are getting higher and higher resolution and brightness - I dont trust em!

Means you can check exposure, colour, noise and sharpness more accurately, see if you can afford to go open up a stop and decreass the iso if the depth of field can be made smaller, then go and check the judgement almost right away.

How would you do it? IF the software with the camera doesnt do it - Try Adobe Lightroom or Apple Aperture - both of these are very popular with photographers.

Does lightroom or apaure have software built in to it that will give me a live view of my photo's and instantly display my pics after I have taken them? Will it work with a Sony A100?

Dont think so, Canon has it in their DPP software that comes with the camera, so if it doesn't come with it, dont think it can do it.

but, I think both those applications allow you to send the photos straight to them as they are shot, so its almost as good.

I tried "tethering" with apature today and aparture seems to hook up and read my camera fine. The problem is that my Sony A100 goes into "dumb" mode and wont shoot any photo's while its connected with the USB cable...

Im guessing its not possible for the sony A100? :(
