Congratulations for your new camera. Relax
: that's only the normal learning curve
Here are some tips I hope they'll help you. All pages between () refer to the English K10D manual.
First, there is a Firmware Update Software Version 1.30
available at http://www.pentax.co.jp/english/support ... 10d_s.html
Check the mode
: is it P, Av, Sv, Tv (page 38 ) ? Also, is ISO
set at automatic (page 140)? Select the green
(automatic) option for both. Don't panic: I remember I was lost
at first with so many options to play with
Try the metering mode layer
(page 142) and the AF point switching
dial (page 133). Select the green
(automatic) option for both.
Automatic white balance
may be surprising: try it first and then, set it manually (page 123). When using the flash, I recommend to set the white balance at flash: there's also a slow-speed-sync (page 174) and WB when using flash in custom settings (page 206).
could be used in remote mode, so both flashes are actually used (the K10D built-in flash plus the external AF540). I described on my Pentax K10D user review http://www.cameralabs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=543
- the procedure under Macro indoor http://www.cameralabs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2798#2798 and see also the manual (page 181)
- the first not so good results http://www.cameralabs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2837#2837
- and better results http://www.cameralabs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=3888#3888
Next day, try to take pictures on the open air, with the light from the sun. That's much easier
Two topics on the same K10D discovery may be misleading: newbie after one full day
and newbie K10 owner needs help
. Which one do you want to proceed with
The newbie K10 owner needs help
seems more appropriate.
Maybe we could place that topic on the already existing Pentax K10D user review http://www.cameralabs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=543
or open a specific new thread section Starting with a new camera
Gordon, what do you think
