so i just sat for the last 4 hours at a table taking well over 300 shots

and one thing that is bothering me is , i need to use a flash to take a picture otherwise the picture is SUPER Dark or just plain black , how do i fix that ?

also i noticed a reddish hue in some of the pics that actually did have come out

im 1/2 way done reading the manuel , but cant finish eyes are drying out and getting really tired

one thing that im in love with though is the AF540 external flash i got
its so cool just pivot it up down or left or right and it changes the whole look of the picture
most of my shots tonight were of flowers in a vase on a table with a chandleir overhead

but back to my issues
if you can give me step by step instructions that'd be GREAT !

thanks a million to everyone that has helped me in my choice for this camera , i may be overweld at the moment with it but im in it for the long haul so im ready to be taught EVERYTHING about pohotography , HAHAHAH just hope you all can put up with my daily concerns and questions till i become 100% satisfied in my abilities with my brand new Pentax K10d

OH also what are some recommended tweaks to make the pictures that much better , alot of my photos will be in low light except when i have all my lights on my band then it can get quite bright

goto my Flickr link below to get an idea of what i like to shoot

Bonjour Drill-lights,

Congratulations for your new camera. Relax: that's only the normal learning curve :!: Here are some tips I hope they'll help you. All pages between () refer to the English K10D manual.

First, there is a Firmware Update Software Version 1.30 available at  ... 10d_s.html

Check the mode: is it P, Av, Sv, Tv (page 38 ) ? Also, is ISO set at automatic (page 140)? Select the green (automatic) option for both. Don't panic: I remember I was lost at first with so many options to play with :!:

Try the metering mode layer (page 142) and the AF point switching dial (page 133). Select the green (automatic) option for both.

Automatic white balance may be surprising: try it first and then, set it manually (page 123). When using the flash, I recommend to set the white balance at flash: there's also a slow-speed-sync (page 174) and WB when using flash in custom settings (page 206).

The AF540 could be used in remote mode, so both flashes are actually used (the K10D built-in flash plus the external AF540). I described on my Pentax K10D user review
  1. the procedure under Macro indoor  and see also the manual (page 181)
  2. the first not so good results
  3. and better results

Next day, try to take pictures on the open air, with the light from the sun. That's much easier :!:

Two topics on the same K10D discovery may be misleading: newbie after one full day and newbie K10 owner needs help. Which one do you want to proceed with :?: The newbie K10 owner needs help seems more appropriate.

Maybe we could place that topic on the already existing Pentax K10D user review  or open a specific new thread section Starting with a new camera :?:

Gordon, what do you think :?:
