Congratulations to everyone who entered, especially all the first-timers in this section - it's great to have you on-board. So the huge poll above contains no fewer than 73 entries to choose from, and as always it's tough with only one vote each - so make yours count!

As always, the poll closes in three weeks at midnight GMT 21st June 2008. The winner will then have one week to set the theme for the following month, July's Assignment.

Hello everyone, welcome to May's Assignment!

The theme for this month is suggested by ChaplainBlake who won the March 2008 competition. In chaplainblake's own words:

"My choice for the May theme is "Reflection". The thought came to me as I observed a group engaging in meditative prayer. However, all sorts of reflection are game...optical, metaphysical, and everything in between. Though I prefer the pure images, I would say that this sort of topic requires an open field, so post processing and montages are fine. Flex those creative muscles!"

RULES!

1: The photo you submit should be taken during the month of the actual assignment - so for this month's contest, it must be taken during May 2008.

2: You're only allowed to submit one image, and you can't change you mind once it's posted!

3: Images should be no larger than 500 pixels on their longest side.

As always, please exercise good judgement on what is suitable for the forum.

Please include a sentence or two with your photo describing what you were trying to achieve and if there were any particular challenges in doing so.

We're all enthusiasts here, so it's also great to see what equipment you used and the settings too. So please also include the following:

Well, as Bjorn mentioned, this could have gone with last month's assignment as well, but i quite like it and i wont have much time the rest of the month to go out and take new pics due to finals at my university, so here it goes. Pretty standard photo:

Post processing: oh gosh... quite a bit in Lightroom 2.0 BETA: Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Luminance, Vignette.... it goes on.

This photo other than the obvious reflection, seemed to indicate there were there were these ghastly faces in the center. So to wax philosophical, if one will take the time for reflection or introspection, perhaps the "monsters" stealing peace and dissatisfaction will be revealed.

Sony A100, 70mm F/5.0, ISO 100. 1/160 second, post processing small straightening, small crop, one click of sharpening.

I love pet photography, and was inspired to take this picture for the May assignment after the down pour of rain in my area at the weekend.

Here we have one of my dogs enjoying a drink from a large puddle, causing her reflection to ripple.

The subject this month is very timely as I caught this shot this past saturday..inside the reflection.
