I'm going to the Singapore grand prix in September (come on Lewis!) and hope to get some good action shots of the cars at night.

I've watched Gordon's excellent video on how to make the image blurry to convey speed, but my question is this;

Does the IS mode need to be on or off with my (relatively) cheap canon lenses when panning to create the blur? There are no separate modes of IS, it's either on or off.

I have a canon D400 with EF-S 17-85 IS and EF-S 55-250 IS lenses.

Any advice would be great!

I'm not a Canonite, but I can at least give you this advice:
You should practice with normal street traffic to find out the best settings and movement before you go off to the Grand Prix!

Is must be off, if not the fast movement of your hand will make the IS go crazy, but anyway you should practice both with traffic and choose the one that suits you best :D
