I have seen in the past pictures with what appeares to ebe watermarks instead of dark text over them.
Is there a good program out there for doing this? I have seen alot of freeware and 29.99 ones, but i wanted to know if it was availible in say Photoshop CS ? or any othe rprograms...

I imagine just having text on the image then adjusting the opacity should work fine.
You can do this in pretty much any software these days.

Its always the easy solutions we overlook ....

Yeah that is what i do, i either use a black and white ink then i just adjust the opacity of that layer till i m happy with it, i dont want my watermarks to be too obvious and make the viewer look away from the main subject in the image!

Good Morning, I use Winwatermark, as posted
above it can be done in Photoshop.
Some of the freewares are good, and make
things easy for specific tasks, like signing pics etc...
You can also do a batch of pics with some, not
sure how to do that in PS.

Seems like a lot of money to pay for something you can do in more or less any photo editing application, free or otherwise.

If you want to watermark your images, download GIMP, buy photoshop elements or (if you're on a mac) Pixelmator and learn the basic task of the Text tool. It'll take you 10 minutes at best.
