Congratulations to everyone who entered, especially all the first-timers in this section - it's great to have you on-board. So the huge poll above contains no fewer than 74 entries to choose from - that's a whopping 20 more than last month and it's tough with only one vote each - so make yours count!

As always, the poll closes in three weeks at midnight GMT 21st May 2008. The winner will then have one week to set the theme for the following month, May's Assignment.

Hello everyone, welcome to April's Assignment!

The theme for this month is suggested by zrmi, who won the February 2008 competition. In zrmi's own words:

"the theme is 'transportation'..it is up to you interpret the theme..it can be a car, bus, ship, or even a horse..good luck!!"

The photo you submit should be taken during the month of the actual assignment - ie during April 2008. You're also only allowed to submit one image, and you can't change you mind once it's posted!

As always, please exercise good judgement on what is suitable for the forum.

Please include a sentence or two with your photo describing what you were trying to achieve and if there were any particular challenges in doing so.

We're all enthusiasts here, so it's also great to see what equipment you used and the settings too. So please also include the following:

Transport.....Hmmm... Transport, *click* I've got it! The wheel - The invention the started it all.
Sure it may have been knocked around and played around with since then but in essence the sheer genius of its creation will live on forever.

I came across this bicycle whilst walking through the medieval island of Gamla Stan in Stockholm. It was just such a beautifully romantic image that I had to capture it, much to the despair of my girlfriend who was freezing in the cold Swedish wind!

On a trip through the English Peak District, I came across this beautiful lake. It was a very cloudy day and the place was near deserted.

I call this one "Final Anchor" (click the image to see a bigger version). It was a tough choice picking between this and another of the same anchor which didn't include the "well used" Forth Rail Bridge. It might look like the photograph isn't straight (that's what i thought at first!) but it's actually the rail that is tilted to the left, perhaps tricking the eye.

This is a picture that i've been waiting for to take, but i haven't had the chance due to bad weather. Finally today i had the opportunity to take it and by coincidence this month's On Assignment happened to be "Transportation"
Lucky me! This fits in quite perfectly, not the most original picture ever but hey! It looks good i think. A railroad fits in quite much on the subject Transportation.

Also... This is really fun! My last month's picture didn't seem to touch anyone's heart exactly but i'm still very glad. It's incredibly fun to photograph and even more fun to look for opportunities to photograph pictures for the On Assignent thread, everywhere i go i think about the months subject and where i can take a new photograph.

Sorry for all the babble, i'm just new here and i wanted to express my joy.
I hope we will have as many attendants this month as last time! And may the best picture win

Hi guys..this is my submission..



For me, transportation is something can we use to go anywhere we like..we use transportation to go to work, to visit friend's house, to travel and etc. In this photo, I try to illustrate the transportation that being used to go and back from work..I choose to take the photo at night to show that the guy riding the scooter was on his way back home from work..I choose to use panning technique to show that he's in hurry to go back home and he need to be as fast as he can..

'Pub crawl on the Norfolk Broads'
These people, we (my girlfriend and myself) met on a weekend trip around the Norfolk Broads, they’re an old couple who sail their summer away around the broads by stopping off at any pub they can find. Transporting them from pub to pub with excitement.
