 Post subject: 40D CF card
PostPosted: Fri Apr 04, 2008 12:15 pm
Hey everyone,

I've decided on the 40D with 17-85mm IS lens (the current canon cashback offer is a beautiful thing :D) and I'd like to know which CF cards will be quick enough to keep up with the 6.5fps of the camera?

The SanDisk extreme III has a 20Mb/s read/write speed and the extreme IV has a 40Mb/s write speed.

Can any 40D owners comment on what cards they use to get the most out of their camera??

Thanks for any help.

Mark

Congratulations on your camera choice. 8)

My SanDisk Extreme III 4.0GB card keeps up with the camera just fine. I don't think you would get any benefit out of an Extreme IV in the camera but if you have a suitable card reader you might see better read times when using that to transfer photos to the computer.

Bob.

Not something that crossed my mind for the 40D, but I know 4Gb works. I think it takes all current capacities available - perhaps a confirmation by someone in the know??

It takes up to 8GB for sure, but not sure about larger than that, Also I have an extreme IV and Extreme III 4gb card, the Extreme IV seems to not take up as much battery because it gets a 100-200 or so more pictures a charge.

Guess the time of writing adds up and drain more battery than expected.

I'll stick my Canon 40D Memory Card question here also.

When I was reading & watching reviews on different DSRL's I seen that the Sony A300/A350 was able to use a "PRO DUO" card with a CF adaptor.

Is that limited to only Sony or can the 40D also use the same thing?

The reason I ask is because I have a Sony DSC-17, Vaio Laptop & PSP that all use the same type of card  & in case I am in a jam, I could use it as a fallback.
