The gate of a mental institution. I would have backed up further but there is a road with cars going pretty fast...

It's one of those institutions where they put criminals who are deemed mentally ill and thus can't go to prison. All of the inhavitants have commited heavy crimes, including rape and murder.

ACCCCCCCCCCCCK...what a scary feel that place has, and the horror that those walls hold...love the capture of it, Paukl, please say it is not in use, anymore...or perhaps, it is a good place, and keeps them in an us out? I don't know, pretty heavy social subject...even the tree branches look like they came straight from a scary movie...

the moss looks good, tho... :( :!: Creeps me out.

Arkham Asylum goin' on there !! or as Paukl calls it: "Home!" lol

Good shot Paukl..good angle. Is it lit at night perhaps? Some outside floodlights or something? Might make an even gloomier night pic?

Cheers :-)

It's still in use. It used to be a regular prison in earlier days. I don't think anything like this exists outside of Holland, you'd probably go either to prison or to a regular asylum. The purpose of this institution is somewhere in between. Psychiatric treatment is given with the hopes of getting them back into society with a low chance of repeat behavior. If this isn't succesfull inhabitants are moved to a "longstay department".
I think it won't be thát different from Arkham Asylum...
I'll see if I can get there during night someday...

Good shot. Yes, these places exist outside the Netherlands. We have one in Scotland called Carstairs State Hospital. When I was a bairn with my parents motoring down to England we'd pass it in the early hours of the morning and it always looked so creepy. Scary really.

Fantastic building. I love the way the Moss gives it the "been here since the dawn of time" look. Almost looks abandoned!
