And that's really all that matters... 8) 8) 8)

Some of my pictures that have given me most pleasure probably wouldn't be rated at all by others. :?

Bob.

P.S. I like it too.

Greetings!

You're probably not going to like this.

Yup, most of the photos observe the rule of thirds.

Sadly most of the photos aren't that great.

Your last one is the best. Rules are there to be broken. Don't tie yourself to the rules. My most successful picture to date throws the rule of thirds out the window and believe me, I struggled to post it up.

But it just worked. Good photography is not a science, no matter what some folks like to think. Don't make pictures for others, make them for yourself.

Its also about following forum rules... as i see it they are way to big.... i was told 500 wide.... but i could be mistaken....

I like the composition none the less.

Maxima are 500 high and/or wide for "On Assignment", otherwise 1024 wide. The reason On Assignment is restrictive is, I believe, to do with the fact that every post in those threads contain pictures and for those without broadband those threads would load too slowly.

Sometimes you can make yourself crazy following the rules...the real rule is look and see thru your view finder, at that moment..that is all you can capture it is one fraction of a second...less then the blink of an eye.
feel what you see, and you will see what you feel.

The wonder is that we capture the fleeting seconds as well as we do..and I think ya did good...all of us are "works in progress"...

Are you taking these for some photog. class where you have to use this rule?

The reason why people use this rule is because it generates pleasing results. If the results are pleasing to you, why bother with rules?

To answer your question, the second to last image does follow the rule although I think the sign could be positioned closer to the centre of the frame.

Thanks Guys. I like the shots. I was trying for thirds. They are not for any class or anything special. I am just trying to learn.

Well, i liked a few of your pictures.
They pretty much remind me how tight english gardens can look.

Tell me... whats the story about "Newtown" ?

Newtown is just the street name. It is a street about a block from my house. I pass the purple flowers every day and thought I'd take some photos of them. Then I started looking around and seen the walkway and the old building. Of course I had to see what I could do with those.
