Hi everyone!

I reckon breakfast is potentially one of the best meals of the day, and in my travels, I find it hard to beat a decent North American diner!

Like everyone, I have my favourites which I always try and go back to when I'm in town, and I can't resist taking a photo of the meal! Crazy? Maybe. Tasty? Sure is!

So here are my two favourite breakfasts of all time (apart from a superb one in Wales once, but I have no photographic evidence!). I don't pretend to be a food stylist nor a food photographer, and instead have gone for the Martin Parr approach of shooting it as I see it. Then eating it.

So without further ado: Number one is Mama's on Washington Square, San Francisco.



And Number two is Cafe Sarafornia, Calistoga, California.



Ok, so neither are strictly diners, but you know what I mean!

Like I say, these breakfasts are ONLY when I'm on holiday!

Nice pics Gordon! I definitely know what you mean. I always make sure I have pancakes with bacon & syrup for my first breakfast whenever I get to travel to the States

Thats an INSAINE breakfast!!

i think i have never eaten sucha break fast in my life, not really a big fan of eating alot but very selectivly in the morning! but how can u finish that entire breakfast?!??! i eat my good old sandwitch, orange juice, coffe/tea, milkshacked down with bannan and i m full.

Gordon? with that picutre of the darker bred (gotta love dark bread) what are those sauces on the right of it?

I believe the the darker bread is Rye, but Italian's and French are the only breads I like.

Hi Alex, the bread is toasted wheat, but the meal itself is a mexican omlette with sour cream, salsa, guacamole and refried beans... tasty!

And - ahem - in my defense, the photo at the top is actually two people's meals, not just mine!

Anyway, where are the other breakfast photos? Am I the only one crazy enough to shoot, eat then leave? (hang on, as the joke goes, shouldn't that be eats shoots and leaves? Ho ho!)

something to go with the breakfast? Oh, yeah, perfect condiments. I like the one on the left with hash brown potatoes, and onions...over easy eggs, and big orange juice.
