My iMac arrived during my lunch break today. It's beautiful and big too. I've updated it to OS X 10.5.2 and installed 4Gb of RAM. When I get home I'll start to configure some software on it. I think I'll start with Bootcamp then install Lightroom.

i cant wait till the E8500 and the Q9450 Intel cpu's come out. I'm just going to swap out my current mobo and cpu for either one of those (whichever fairs better in reviews) and then i'll be good to go. I will have to get a new copy of XP though as I have an OEM copy and its hardware locked to what Im running now.

Should set me back around £220 for the quad core or £190 for the dual core, plus around £100-130 for the mobo, around £90-100 for xp pro oem.

Well it's been a couple of days and I have quite a lot of software installed on my iMac. I installed Skype and Firefox straight away. I've got XP installed using Boot Camp and also installed using a separate virtual PC in VMware Fusion. I've installed Office 2007 Enterprise under the Boot Camp XP but ran out of activations for use in VMware (it's a home version from my wife's work - I'll just have to fork out £17 for another license). I did have a legit license of Outlook 2007 which I installed in the virtual PC. It works really well, especially when I allocated 1Gb of RAM to the virtual PC. I was also able to get the virtual PC to access the Bonjour printer and disk in the Time Capsule after changing the network from NAT to bridge.

I've copied across my music and set up iTunes and my photos and set up Lightroom. That's my main app and it works great at the high res.

My things to do list is getting shorter now. I need to try my scanner (a CanoScan 3000F), get my documents across from my Time Capsule and set up my wife's user account. All in all the iMac has been a dream.

How's Time Capsule? Does it basically do what they say it does? Or does it have an extra wow factor to it? I've been thinking of getting one ...

So far I've only used the Time Capsule as a network disk, a print server and a router. It's performed excellently in all 3 roles and looks good too. I've not started using Time Machine yet since there isnt a lot of pont until I have finished setting up my computer. I'll probably look into it tomorrow.
