I have a Canon D400.

I've recently bought the 55-250 IS lens and I love it!! I love the IS feature, it seems to work really well.

I'm just curious about re-composing though; can I still half press the shutter release THEN re-compose as normal, or will this confuse the IS system?

I take lots of portraits with just the centre focal point and like to knock out the background, so any tips or advice would be great!

Good point,

I have read that the IS kicks in when you half press the shutter release and it stops after a few seconds.

If (as it might for us beginners) the IS stops can it be re-started without the half press focus lock being lost while recomposing the picture?

Hi SP30, welcome to the Cameralabs forums!

MirageII is correct in that IS normally powers off after a few seconds, but that's if you've let go for the half press - if you keep the shutter half-pressed, it will keep stabilising.
