I've bought a Canon Ixus 75. After reading both the "basic" user guide (the one supplied on paper) and the "advanced" one (on the CD, as a PDF), I can't find any reference as how to manually set the aperture (the f number).

I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't possible at all on a compact camera. I'd just like to know for sure.

Hi Luis, welcome to the Cameralabs forums!

I don't now for sure, but suspect the Ixus 75 does not let you manually select the aperture. Your best bet is to see what it lets you change in its 'manual' mode.

You can however 'trick' most compacts into automatically seelcting the desired aperture though. If you go for a landscape scene preset, it will normally select the smallest aperture for the largest depth of field. And conversely, by selecting the portrait preset, it will go for the biggest aperture to minimise the depth of field. So you can often use these presets for other effects...
