Hi everyone, to kick-off this new section, here's a couple of building shots of my own.

Rather than try and squeeze the whole building into the frame, I often prefer to concentrate on an area of it and present it as an almost abstract image.



The shot above was taken in Seattle with a Pentax 35mm film camera and a 100mm lens.

Another favourite trick is to look for reflections in the glass windows.



Again taken in Seattle with a Pentax 35mm film camera and a 100mm lens.

Or how about placing something in front of those regular shapes to break them up.



The shot above was taken in Las Vegas with a Canon EOS 5D and a 24-105mm lens, zoomed-into 105mm.

I guess I'm a sucker for geometry!

This is actually really cool.
The thought never occured to me that booring citybuildings actually can produce nice and interesting pictures. I guess it's very much about having some kind of artistic gene to get it right.

You guys seem to have that gene. Nice caps !

Will take my camera with me to work some day and try to get a few stockholm-pictures for you.

Thomas, nice shot of the Sky Tower and better than anything I've done of it - I'm gonna steal your idea next time I'm up in Auckland!

Gordon, I tend to look for the exact same things when I'm out and about. Here are some pictures I took in Berlin a couple of years ago, before I had a DSLR. I particularly like the 'dirtiness' of the reflection in the first couple, and the abstract nature of the other two.

shame i dont live in Sao Paulo anymore, and if i did i would take a bunch of those types of shots! i didnt have a DSLR back then but great shots!

i love skyscrapers, i love architecture...but i got some eye candy for u guys coming up soon.

This shot was taken before I had a clue about composition (First & Last shot), I have done my best with it in PhotoShop. Comments welcome....

Like those a lot Steve. I'm going to be in Singapore and Malaysia in June and will be on the lookout for this kind of thing. Which building is that in Singapore?

Also, what focal length are those first two shots of the Petronas Towers? Looks like a really nice tight crop.

Its the Esplanade, Singapore's new(ish) opera/theatre house.

I believe the close ups of the Petronas Towers, KL, were taken at 200mm. They aren't crops.

All the shooting information is available on my Flickr page though where you can double check my somewhat hazy recollection if you wish!
