Took a trip last week, and one of my favorite structures in San Juan, Puerto Rico is the ancient and imposing Spanish fortification of Castillo San Felipe Del Morro, which sits at the western end of the old city walls guarding over the harbor entrance. Here are many views of the structure, from outside and in...

Approach from sea on a windy salt-whipped day:

From the sheltered harbor looking back:

Landward entrance to the fort, looking up the vast killing grounds:

Inside the main courtyard of the fort:

Top of the fort, looking down:

Looking out of a cannon port:

Lighthouse installed in the fort:

One of the iconic 'garitas' or sentry posts, hanging over the sea:

Inside one of the storage rooms:

Looking down the triangular staircase:

Another cannon view:

This time, a round staircase:

The thick walls, and a garita, as viewed through a gun crenellation:

Interesting set Justin, the triangular stairs are unique.

Cheers

Quite an interesting set indeed! I like that last shot a lot, the wall leads in really nice into the garita (I think that's what it is from your brief description). Good job :)

Thank you both.

I was only there for the day, so was a bit limited to how I could shoot the fort - I was stuck with early afternoon light. But I love old forts and castles, and in the U.S. there is very little anywhere that is truly old or ancient...so even with only the day, I loved getting out to San Juan and photographing this fortification!
