I too used Manfrotto for as long as I had a DSLR (I no longer own any tripod, don't need one for my photography). I remember always longing for a Gitzo carbon fibre (or other lightweight material) tripod though. They're better quality, generally, but come at a premium too.

Thanks people, as for posting my pics, my mind has been off lately, I have some problems that affect me mentally, and Ineed to think of a good name for my yahoo account as well.

As well as other reasons, though this site will be the first forum I will put my first pics on when I get a flickr account with yahoo.

Thanks again people.

I have just taken A LOT OF PICTURES, MOSTLY landscape and close nature pics!

Thanks to Gordon Lang's review I have decided on the Manfrotto 055XPROB with the Monfrotto 808RC4 Tripod head I hope I remember to click on the link on cameralabs.com to B&H when I buy that combo.

I plan to buy a EF 70-200mm f2.8L IS II USM in the future, I dont mind the weight and I chose the tripod for height,

I am 182cm / 6ft 1inch tall, so the tripod at its tallest with the head is taller than me, and at its tallest with center column down its just a bit below my eye level and where its stable

good call on the 055XPROB...

I went with the Manfrotto 488RC2 head to support my 70-200.

also a great combination

best of luck

All in all though its all about money, i have other thing I need and have to pay for, and as for posting the picks i have taken so far with my Canon 7D and my only 2 lenses, the EF 40mm f2.8 USM and the EF-S 15-85mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM.

I dont have internet on my OWN computer yet, its where I process all my files, I use the family and office pc for internet.

I want to chose a name for my yahoo address to use on flickr so I can upload my edited pictures I took so far, I shoot only in RAW for personal reasons, when i shoot in jpegs its because I take pics for others, I am always careful about white balance and exposure, using the exposure meter and setting the need shutter speed for both exposure and to capture fast or slower subjects.

Its likely i will be uploading pics when I get my own internet, for personal reasons I dont want to talk about I dont have that, and the other computers I use are both slow and so is the internet I use on them, too slow for me to conveniently transfer files and upload them without frustration!

I am also considering the Manfrotto 055 Carbon Fibre 3 section tripod, as it gets hot here in the summer time which is also dry season, I say summer as its that time of year when the Northern hemisphere is tilted towards the sun, making longer and hotter days and shorter and warmer nights, which is what I like, and my tripod will get hot and I like the sun.

Carbon Fibre as its said dont conduct heat easily like aluminium alloy metals, in fact most metals if not all conduct heat easily.

Some things I need to consider when choosing which tripod, is weight for stability and convenience, price, heating problems and which factors are most important to me!
